A Trivia Question Featuring the Dalnavert House!

Updated: Jul 12

When your dad was the first prime minister of Canada, who led the Confederation, championed the National Dream of a cross-country railway, had a thriving law practice, and whose face is on one of Canada's early stamps, that can be a tough act to follow.

But Sir Hugh Macdonald was no slouch himself. The only son of Sir John A. MacDonald, Hugh was raised by his uncle after his mother died when he was only seven. After military service, he became a lawyer like his father and in 1891 was elected federally to represent Winnipeg in the House of Commons.  Nine years later he led the Manitoba Conservatives to victory, becoming Premier of Manitoba.

His house in Winnipeg was built in the fashionable Queen Anne revival style. Named Dalnavert after the birthplace of his Scottish maternal grandmother, the fine red brick house was Sir Hugh's home until his death in 1929 and is a National Trust property.

Hugh, son of which former Canadian Prime Minister lived in the historic house at Dalnavert Museum?

You may find what you need to answer this question in the blog itself!

You can visit other examples of National Trust properties through the Driftscape app. Simply search National Trust in the app search bar and look for the red maple leaf icons.
